The Good, The Bad, The Remix – Dr. Mad

Hailing from Montreal, Canada, Dr.Mad is known for being a part of the Alaiz collective, but also for co-providing Future,Modern and Boogie Funk vibes through Voyage Funktastique (a radio show and monthly nights/parties)
We discovered him with his project called « South EP » (which was released in 2012) and were immediately attracted by his music. And here we are today, releasing his brand new project called « The Good, The Bad, The Remix ».
Dr. Mad tried as hard as he could, with this project, to remix some little known artists he loves, and underground materials instead of working on another track by Aaliyah or Janet Jackson.
This is a real honor for us to be a part of his journey, and we’re glad to finally introduce to you guys, this powerful project !

The Mist – Lost Twin

“The Mist” recalls a hypnotic, eerie landscape, a fog which slowly materialises over a lake in the deepest part of the woods. “Conundrum” sets the mise-en-scène with spectral voices that hover over organic pads and drones. “Snake snake” is the closest thing to hip-hop on the album, without compromising on a free structure where the rhythms are fractured and reconstructed, like a living entity, before giving way to the crystal-clear melodies and throbbing bass frequencies, over which the ethereal voice of Nimio oscillates in “Ego hunter”. Cascades of notes and phantasmagorical vocals reach their highest point with the ritual scenes of “Acuario de plantas”, putting an end to the record’s first half. “The Tides” opens the second half with a web of arpeggios and an emphatic rhythm section. “Gamelan” provides a few minutes of tense calm, preparing the listener for the fast-paced rhythm and the expansive textures of “The Inmost light”, before finishing with the ever-mutating “Coda”, featuring the contribution of the multitalented, brilliant Van Delay adding synth layers in a mesmerising conclusion.

The Other Day – Pomo

In Montreal, we got a bunch of talented beatmakers. Weirdly, they’re more famous and exposed in the rest of the world than in Montreal. That’s the Montreal’s paradox. Anyway, Pomo is one of them and he needed a big project to confirm that we had to keep a eye on him.

After several huge remix and many free download tracks, Pomo has released his Ep the Other day on the californian label HW&W. Obviously there’s a track featuring Kaytranada (whose also on this label) on his EP.

The Other Day is a dancefloor anthem. You definitively need to listen to this new EP if you were fan of Pomo’s funky style.

Pomo is a Canadian multi-instrumentalist and producer living
in Montreal, QC, Canada. Growing up in Port Moody, BC, he
matured through the Vancouver music scene, introducing
himself to various elements of music. After moving eastward
in 2012, Pomo has hit his stride in the electronic dance
music market, joining the likes of Kaytranada, Ta-ku, and
Stwo on the HW&W roster.

Drawing from various influences, Pomo makes an effort to
distance himself from genre-defining elements while
approaching his music from an organic and raw songwriting
perspective. Using elements from hip hop, electronic, and
70s/80s funk, the multifaceted producer likes to draw people
in with the malleable dynamics of his music, something that
attracts himself to artists like J Dilla, Prince, Disclosure, and
the emerging EDM scene as a whole.

After being featured in Kaytranada’s live set and receiving
nods from the likes of Disclosure, Bondax, Gramatik, Pomo
has broken into the international market, receiving
recognition from media outlets like Vice’s Noisey, THUMP,
Earmilk, Soulection Radio, 22 Tracks and many more. Now,
growing on his Canadian electronic music notoriety, Pomo is
preparing to expand his presence by bring his live show
overseas, making appearances throughout the world.

Sister – Dolor

Dolor is one of the most discrete artist that i know and even if his debut EP was released on Ninja Tunes. Proof is he hadn’t really communicated about this brand new Ep Dolor. Probably cause he doesn’t care about posting useless stuff and he probably prefere working on his music and between you and me (and all internet), it’s perfect like this even if he deserve more exposure.
This new EP is dark and deep and we clearly feel the Lorn’s touch (who has masterised this project).

More info on his Facebook or more tracks on his soundcloud

woulg

Thin Veil – Woulg

There are some news coming from the New York’s label Outlier Recordings. Some of us discovered this producer in live at Mutek this year but Woulg releases his fifth EP on Outlier. As usual, the Montreal’s producer offers us a EP between glitchy ambient like the title Thins Veil (which is also the title of this EP), sound design on Ocean and Techno on What you left behind.
If you like the muscial texture, this EP is for you.

Greg Debicki is a composer and new media artist based in Montréal. He completed a BFA from Alberta College of Art and Design and studied music composition at the Dartington College of Arts, UK. He writes generative music software, designs interactive projections, and composes glitch music (as Woulg).

fader

Fader – Thriftworks

Two weeks ago, we’ve posted Fade, the first part of a three part project by Thriftworks. We’ve also announced the release date of Fader which is obviously the second part. It’s the D day and once again, the Oakland’s producer proves that he’s extremely productive. This is a 33 tracks project with few amazing guests like Insightful, Ill Esha or Russ Liquid (who already was on Fade).

See you on December 1st for the last part of this trilogy Fadest.
