Beaux Degats 28

Beaux Degats #28 – Mercredi 25 Février

28éme édition : Beaux Dégâts

Beaux Degats (Fine Mess) is an art mash-up inspired by both Graffiti and Street Art culture. An art showdown where the public can vote with there beer cans«

Odeeno – M∆nd

« Hog butcher for the world,
Tool maker, stacker of wheat,
Player with railroads and the nation’s freight handler;
Stormy, husky, brawling,
City of the big shoulders.

Jeebrahil’s video – GoodNightOut

Jeebrahil – GoodNightOut from Jeebrahil on Vimeo.

One month after the release of our latest compilation Unlog complex #5, Jeebrahil provides us a visit of Paris by night. This video has been directed by David Sultan

Jeebrahil

Artist from Guadeloupe living in Paris, Jeebrahil defines and develops his own style, AmbientHopKa, around electronic music compositions, hip hop and Gwoka, traditional music from Guadeloupe.

« No matter where you’re from and who you are, I am pretty sure that you are aware of what’s happening nowadays in this world and what can lead us to a better destiny. Some things are awful. Some wonderful other things deserve our attention. So in this very time, it is time for you to gather all the positive and to choose your own path. Music should be a way to highlights the elements that can make our world better. This is the reason why i share my creations. »

Zomb. - Distraction EP

Zomb. – Distraction EP

Today’s free download comes from Belgium, with the latest opus from Zomb., Distraction EP.

« Zomb.’s compositions are essentially inspired by the american hip hop productions of the last decade, at the crossroads of the L.A.’s beat scene experimental music and the New York rap minimalism. Sometimes cyclic and hypnotic, but also jerky and rocky, his minimalist and fastidious productions translate a constantly changing urban environment. »

Also, to celebrate the release of this EP, Zomb. also greats us with his first Retrospective of a Beat Addict mix, recorded for the Brussels based LDBK (pronounce Laidback) radio. The title is explicit : a retrospective full of classics of the abstract beat movement from 1994 to 2008, through artists such as DJ Krush, Amon Tobin, and Cannibal Ox.

Enjoy!

[VIDEO] 9th cloud – Prism

9th cloud‘s music is no stranger to you if you’re reading those lines. Here’s a very inspiring video about his latest A/V live project Prism, an introspective creation performed live, in collaboration with the visual artist Cyril Meroni. You’ll find deeper details and insights on their creation process and the inspirations behind this finely crafted piece of live art.

« Enter a 6 sided brain. PRISM [Backdrop source cross resurgence] is an unusual musical and visual work which consists in a creative pulsion and endeavours to stage its causes and its consequences. PRISM is a highlight on what is going on in the thoughts and within the environment of the artist at the very moment he creates.

I cherish and  I question what my creative process has been for years. The technical approach (use of concrete sound, sound morphings, granular synthesis, and reality-off sonrity design) is in the toil an aim made of automatic writing, surrealism,  free association of ideas, and unconscious steps and reconstitutions of sound possible worlds from his imagination.

This performance waver between concert, sound designed cinema, and sound objects theatre. The  music includes some sounds from movies. In addition, the artist’s gestures, by distance and pressue sensors, influence the shape of the image. »

Digging visuals.

Lately, we’ve introduced to you some of SSWlll’s artworks and visual experiments. SSWlll is the artist behind our last compilation’s solid artwork and if you haven’t already, we still strongly suggest that you check it out on our Bandcamp page.

Since this article, it turns out that he produced a pretty efficient video trailer, introducing some of his VJ loops.  We wanted to share it with you, but we’re taking this article as a good opportunity to explore the visual works of some other artists who are also part of the Unlog family.

Push 1 stop : Unlog Complex 03 teaser

Audio : Tayreeb – Langskip Trip

Back in mid 2014, as we were about to release our 3rd Unlog Complex we had the opportunity to have its mood condensed into this short visual object produced by the talented VJ artist that is Push 1 stop. Based in Montreal, she masters the whole chain between the creation of her very own visual content and the live performances she gives through immersive VJ sets, such for the world famous Igloofest winter festival or under the immersive dome built at the SAT (Montreal).

Find some of her works on her Vimeo page, and make sure to click HD. Here’s one we really love, inspired by a track from Ben Frost’s latest album Etheral Machines. « A Single Point of Blinding Light ». Precisely, you’re watching art generated with GLSL coding. A fractal that reacts to the music and some compositing in Smoke 2015.

Bruno Destombes – Unlog Complex 02 Teaser

Audio : Himuro Yoshiteru – Almost robot

If we go a bit further, we’ll reach mid 2013, when we released our second Unlog Complex compilation, starting with the granular heavy hitter that is the track Almost Robot from Himuro Yoshiteru.  At that time, we were just starting making compilations (an unexpected project at first) in a world already saturated with free beat tapes. We did not beg to differ, nor really bother actually : we were truly confident about the quality of the music we were about to release, but something seemed missing. This music was mostly synth based, had no lyrics, and worked really well with visuals when played live (and even better with Push 1 stop’s visuals, scroll up to see why)… the brainstorming led to something quite obvious : any kind of moving images would be an excellent way to express the very own identity of the music we love. It had to start with something, and it started with this experimental glitch trailer made by our friend Bruno Destombes. Professional event photographer and multi-talented visual artist, Bruno covers pretty much everything we love about this town’s cultural life. Later after he produced this video for us, a new adventure started for him with This is HERD, a project that aims at creating original and creative multimedia content related to Canadian arts.

His latest creation is a documentary that covers the last edition of 24 Hours of Vinyl in San Fransisco. Again, here’s another inspiring document to share to all the diggers around you.

BLACKELK RECORDINGS – LEVITATE COLLAPSE

NOZA : « Naghtva Ugel » / UNLOG x BLKE – VA – Complex EP#1

Back in time again, to our very first compilation, Unlog Complex 01 in mid 2012. This release was a collaboration with the label Blackelk Recordings, and the next releases were meant to feature some from some of their artists, such as UM, Duff Ill, MLP, Everydayz, Famelik, Killacam or Jean du Voyage.

The project evolved : UM and Duff Ill teamed up to create Levitate Collapse, a 30 minutes combo between audio / video projection, based on some tracks released on their catalog (available for free download on blackelkrecordings.com). The video has been tailored for Noza’s track Naghtva Ugel, in our very first compilation.

Note that Duff Ill’s musical universe has also been transposed into images in the video below, video clip for the track Darkness Dayz (released last december on his EP Splash).

What about Kalbut DSGN?

Many of you remember our friend from Belgium, Mr Freezy. One of the founders of this website, who created most of our podcasts’ visuals (plus some flyers and wallpapers too), also recorded 2 of our early podcasts (and a track on our next compilation maybe?)… He never really left actually, and is kept really busy countless projects with Kalbut DSGN, that include events, art creations, and lots of video.

Here’s one they made recently, introducing Dominique B.’s work on a track by Loowood.

Engone Endong – Indigo Seed

Last but not least, but we did not want you to miss this one. Engone’s indigo seed music video, made in February 2013 as we released Engone Endong’s podcast mix Dimensions.

INTERVIEW :

Pour mes compositions on me surnomme « Aei« .

1/ Hi and thank you for this set ! Can you introduce yourself ?
Yo, I AM Thibault , 17years old beatmaker from Alsace in east France. I started music at 4 with keyboard. Since 2 y now i make music with computers. For that my nickname is AEI. It means eternity. It fine to me cuz for me the music is eternal and without limits.
2/ We find that you’re from the new generation of producers with no musical boundaries. Can you talk to us about your influences?
2 Yes that’s right. Hip-hop and electro both inspire me but not only. I’m from a musician family and with keyboard i start in the classical world. For me classical is the roots for lot of actual musics and a main inspiration to me. I’m in love with world music too , big inspiration too! I love the sounds of life too, sounds of the streets or sounds of your kitchen . I can sample some cooking tools ahah :) .
To name a few artists i can say Ta-ku for his crazy beats , emotional and so original and Wookid for his powerfull compositions.

3/Can you talk about your guest mix?

3. For this one, i wanted to create the best playlist to travel . You can find lot of my favorite artists. Their music make me dream and give me the power to love each day. So i wanted to give you the emotions i feel with these songs. A catchy beginning and after that some deep tracks to meditate and dream to come back to the reality.

4/ Any project ?

4 . Not now because i am a student:) and i have exams to pass. But my last EP was release last month. It contains tracks of my soundcloud and is out in limity CD edition.

5/ Any gigs?

5. I love to make live at keyboard or on the decks but not for the moment .

6 Something to addd?

6 Thank you a lot to Retrofuture and all people who follow me !

Thanks to you !!!!

Most forgotten

Most Forgotten – S.Maharba

S.Maharba has released an almost new LP on bandcamp. By almost, mean that LP is a compilation of unreleased or demo or forgotten tracks. All that tracks has been produced between 2006 and 2014 which is interesting cause you’ll notice the evolution of his productions in 8 years.
If you want some freshest released from this British producer, you’ll can’t find his latest Ep Memorial which was released in limited edition tape but it’s still listenable on his bandcamp HERE
