1 Salut R-ash, tout d’abord merci de nous accorder du temps ainsi que de nous avoir préparer ce mix pour RetroFuture. Pourrais tu te présenter pour ceux qui ne te connaîtraient pas ?

Riad Hammadi Alias R-ASH [RH], Dj, producteur et Boss du label Lobby Records, j’ai eu un long parcours dans le domaine des compétitions de dj’s, (7 fois Champion de France et 3 fois vice Champion du monde) de 2000 à 2010, ai été résident sur différentes Radio : Radios Locales dans ma ville d’origine (Toulon), Radio FG de 2004 à 2008 et aujourd’hui Mouv’ Radio du groupe Radio France. Parallèlement J’ai fait plusieurs tournées à travers la France avec différents groupes de Rap et variété française (Puzzle, Haroun de Scred Connexion, Anais, l’Entourage…) j’ai fait des apparitions sur divers projets, sorti 2 opus (Tayrald Break et Daily Thrill) destinés aux dj’s Turntablist via le label Scratch Science, sous le nom de Vand Vand et depuis 2 ans je sors régulièrement tracks et remixes et continue à tourner, un peu partout en france et de temps en temps à l’étranger.

2 Parles nous un peu de ton set . Peux tu nous dire ce qui t’influence dans le paysage musical actuel ? Et ou tu te situes dedans.

Ça va pas mal dépendre de l’humeur, il y a des morceaux que je vais apprécier un jour et qui vont moins me toucher à force de les écouter… Je me situe un peu au milieu de tout ça, le but étant d’être le moins influencé possible, dans le sens où peu importe ton niveau dans ce que tu fais, l’essentiel est d’avoir une identité particulière.

3 Quels sont d’après toi les artistes à suivre en ce moment ?

Il y a des mecs comme Cashmere Cat/Lido entres autres qui ont su remettre au goût du jour des vibes RnB qui étaient bannies depuis quelques années dans les milieu de la musique électronique, certains artistes affiliés à Soulection ont aussi compris l’importance qu’il y avait à remettre la musicalité au centre des choses…

Y’a des artistes comme Pyrmdplaza ou Invention pour ne citer qu’eux qui ont fait des tracks incroyables, en fait je suis vraiment sensible à des morceaux en particulier, tout n’est pas bon à prendre malheureusement même chez des mecs qui ont su faire des tueries.

4 Quels sont tes projets musicaux à venir, ainsi que ceux dont tu es le plus fier ?

Je prépare la sortie de Never Let Me Go, Un morceau, le clip, et les remixes par des artistes dont j’apprécie le travail qui vont avec, en fait je trouve que c’est la formule qui colle le mieux à notre époque, à la croisée entre Single, Compilation et EP. Ça met en abîme une palettes de style dont je me sens proche et reflète l’image et la direction globale du Label au moment des sorties. En réalité je suis fière de la globalité de ma carrière, j’ai réalisé des rêves de gamins et j’ai passé ma vie à faire ce que je voulais, j’en vis et j’ai conscience de la chance que ça peut être.

5 Tu viens donc de la scène turntablist , depuis combien de temps pratiques tu? Comment es tu tombé là dedans?

J’ai commencé en 96 à l’âge de 11 ans, 3 ou 4 ans avant on prenait de plein fouet l’arrivée du Hip Hop et sa démocratisation en Europe, on avait la chance d’avoir le câble, l’ancêtre des Box à ADSL, on captait MTV et on était scotché devant Yo MTV Rap, c’était l’âge d’or… Donc le fait de te mettre à rapper ou t’approprier un rôle dans le mouvement s’imposait à toi ; mon frère et cousins qui montaient un groupe de rap à l’époque ont eu la chance de trouver des Technics MKII en bon état de chez un mec qui voulait s’en débarrasser… C’était une aubaine, après c’était fini…

6 Que penses tu de la scène scratch actuellement?

Je trouve qu’elle est en effervescence , je m’étonne vraiment de la stabilité du nombre d’adepte, après je déplore un peu que certains manquent de flow de par le fait qu’ils outrepassent l’apprentissage des techniques de bases.

7 Tu joues pas mal de sons assez récents , trap , jersey club , tu es dj sur le mouv , arrives tu a faire prendre ces courants plutot recents ici en France ?

Le futur nous le dira mais je trouve que c’est juste l’évolution des choses, y’a à boire et à manger dans tout ça, tout le travail d’un Dj c’est de faire le tri et donc d’en partager le meilleur avec le public, en même temps je me méfie pas mal des courants qui marquent une époque précise.

1 Hi R-ash, first thank you for giving us the time as well as preparing this mix for Retrofuture. Could you introduce yourself for those who do not know you?

Riad Hammadi aka R-ASH [RH], DJ, producer and Boss of the Lobby Records label, I had a long career in the field of dj’s competitions (7 times Champion of France and 3 times Vice World Champion) from 2000 to 2010, have been residing on different Radio: Local Radios in my hometown (Toulon), Radio FG from 2004 to 2008 and now Mouv ‘Radio from the Radio France group. At the same time I made several tours through France with different rap groups and French pop bands (Puzzle, Haroun Scred Connection, Anais, Entourage …) I did appearances on various projects, released two album ( Tayrald Break and Daily Thrill) for dj’s turntablist via the Scratch Science label, under the name of Vand Vand and for 2 years I put out regularly tracks and remixes and continues to travel, all over France and from time to time abroad.

2 Tell us about your set. Can you tell us what your influences in the current musical landscape are?And where you situate yourself in it?

It depends on the mood, there are songs I’m going to enjoy one day and the days after a little less … I put myself in the middle of it, the goal is to be the least influenced possible, in the meaning that no matter your level is in what you do, the key is to have a particular identity.

3 What do you think are the artists to follow now?

There’re guys like Cashmere Cat / Lido among others who were able to bring up to date RnB vibes that was banned for a few years in the world of electronic music, some artists affiliated to Soulection also understood the importance to put back the musicality in the center of things …There’s artists like Pyrmdplaza or Invention to name a few who have made incredible tracks, in fact I’m really sensitive to particular songs, everything is not good to listen, unfortunately even among guys who have made bangers.

4 What are your musical projects to come, as well as those of which you are most proud of?

I prepare the release of Never Let Me Go, the song, the video clip, and the Remixes by artists from whom I appreciate the work, in fact I think it is the formula that best stick with our time, at the crossroads between Single, compilation and EP. It goes deep with a set of styles I feel close to and reflects the image and the overall direction of the label when it comes to the releases. In fact I am proud of my whole career, I realized the dreams of when I was a kid and I’ve spent my life doing what I wanted, I made a life out of it and I realize how lucky I can be .

5 You do come from the turntablist scene, how long do you practice? How did you fell into it?

I started in ’96 at the age of 11, 3 or 4 years before the arrival of Hip Hop and democratization in Europe, we were lucky to have the cable, the ancestor of Box or ADSL, we could watch MTV and was glued to Yo MTV Rap, it was the golden age … So the fact of putting yourself at rapping or getting you a role in the movement was necessary to you ; my brother and cousins who had a rap group at the time were lucky to find Technics MKII in good condition at a guy who wanted to get rid of it … it was a godsend and after that it was on …

6 What do you think of the current scene scratch?

I think she is in effervescence, I’m stunned knowing the stability in the number of fan but I regret a little that some of them lack of flow because they want to go too fast beyond learning the basics techniques.

7 You play quite fairly new sounds like, trap, jersey club, you’re already on the radio le moov, how are your takes on these recent trends here in France?

The future will tell but I think it’s just the evolution of things, there is some for everybody, all the work of a DJ is to sort and to share the best with the public, at the same time I am away from current trends which mark a particular time.

1 Salut Odilon, tout d’abord merci de nous accorder du temps ainsi que de nous avoir préparer ce mix pour RetroFuture. Pourrais tu te présenter pour ceux qui ne te connaîtraient pas ?

Mon prénom c’est bien « Odilon » j’ai 34 ans et je suis originaire du sud de la france, mais depuis 9 ans tout pile j’ai déménagé à Bruxelles. Je pratique le turntablism et j’anime des soirées depuis les années 2000. En 2005 j’ai commencé les competitions pour devenir champion du monde IDA 2010 avec les duo Fader Penetrators. Depuis seulement 3 ans je me suis mis à la production musicale.. pas mal de hip hop electro, scratch beat, future sounds et aussi un peu de house avec un pote.

2 Parles nous un peu de ton set . Peux tu nous dire ce qui t’influence dans le paysage musicale actuel. Et ou tu te situes dedans.

Pour le coup ce set est plutôt axé hip hop à l’ancienne, un court éventail de mes gouts en matière de bon vieux boombap. Il y a une courte session scratch au milieu, en effet c’est plutôt un mix dans la tradition de l’art. Pour ceux qui ne me connaissent pas je suis un passionné de musique avant tout et je suis très ouvert quand on en vient au genre musicale, j’écoutes aussi bien des trucs de maintenant, comme des hits qui ont aussi bercé l’adolescence de nos parents. Ma seul limite et celle du mauvais gout je parles de la musique qui porte une date de péremption, celle -la je la laisse à ceux qui apprécient MTV.

3 Quels sont d’après toi les artistes à suivre en ce moment ?

En ce moment je suis très fan de toute cette mouvance future beats, donc pour ne pas tout citer je parlerais de Deft, Wave racer, 20syl, Geotheory, Gramatik, Pomo, Waldo, Alizzz, Pomrad, Maxx Baer, Starkey, Lindsay Lowend, B Bravo, CYGN, Tom Misch, Parrad, etc… Après c’est chacun ses goûts aussi.

4 Quels sont tes projets musicaux à venir, ainsi que ceux dont tu es le plus fier ?

En ce moment je boss sur pas mal de nouveaux projets divers et variés… le premier s’appel « FLUO KIDD » un projet orienté production, live, dans le genre plutôt future beat, abstract hip hop, un autre House aka « The Houstakerz », et sinon j’ai commencé à bosser avec une chanteuse de formation jazz « Jobee » il y a une version en mode groupe avec des musiciens, puis plus récemment on a monté un set autour des platines plutôt axé electro pop… sinon depuis le debut et pour toujours je poursuis mon projet perso « Dj Odilon » plutôt accès turntablism / hip hop / bass music / Funky shit (cf: djodilon.com).

5 Tu viens donc de la scène turntablist , depuis combien de temps pratiques tu? Comment es tu tombé là dedans?

Tout a commencé par la mix dans les années 2000, puis à force d’écouter du hip hop et notamment d’être tombé sur une des fameuse mixtape de deejay cut killer « Hip hop soul party III » je me suis dis que c’est ca que je voulais faire, puis s’en est suivit des heures de visionnage des cassettes Vhs de cours Academix vol° 1, 2 & 3. Puis un jour je me suis payé mon billet de train pour aller faire une semaine de formation à Paris au sein même de l’Academix, avec mister sensei Dj Hitch.

6 As-tu quelques conseils à donner à ceux qui comme toi veulent faire de la compétition?

je leur conseillerais de travailler à développer leur style, de s’inspirer des grands nom afin d’en trouver sa propre expression personnelle. Puis mieux vaut commencer le plus tôt possible car il y a aussi beaucoup de choses à apprendre dans le domaine, la gestion du stress, la notion de show, la création d’un set original, la technicité, … Sinon pour les techniciens sachez que si vous calibrez votre software de montage à 133,33 bpm la grille correspondra exactement à la circonférence du disque vinyl et donc il vous sera plus facile pour disposer vos sons par quart, moitié, etc…

7 Quelles sont pour toi les qualités indispensable d’un bon Scratcheur ?

Les premières grandes qualités à posséder sont la patience et l’acharnement. Sinon écouter et s’entrainer sur tout les tempos et genres de musique, multiplier les rencontres entre scratcheur, musiciens etc… S’ouvrir aux autres aide au partage et divers échange.. Bon après avec une bonne connection internet tu as accès à tout les tutos du monde via des plate-formes telle que youtube.

8 Que penses tu de la scène scratch d’aujourd’hui ?

Je trouves notre scène turntablism diverse et varié tant en style qu’en origine. Maintenant le turntablism est devenu un phénomène mondiale, et ca c’est plutôt cool la famille s’agrandit. Mon seul bémols serait plus cette évolution de notre art vers l’abandon du vinyl, je ne voudrais pas paraitre vieux jeu mais bon laissons les platines vivre; le controlerism et une autre discipline à mes yeux. A chacun son truc !

9 Si tu étais un morceau de musique, lequel serais tu ?

Sans hésiter Tom Misch « on my mind » il suffit que je l’entende pour partir dans mes pensées.

10 Des dates à venir?

Ma prochaine date à côté d’artistes internationaux est planifié pour le samedi 16 mai à Liège à l’occasion de l’anniversaire de la Full Colorz. Je jouerais au côté de Suff Daddy et notamment MNDSGN.

My name is « Odilon » I’m 34 and I’m from the south of France, but since 9 years I moved to Brussels. I practice turntablism and I host parties since 2000. In 2005 I started competitions to become IDA 2010 World Champion with the duo Fader Penetrators. It’s been only 3 years since I started producing. a lot of hip hop electro, scratch beat, future sounds and also a little of house music with a friend.

2 Tell us about your set. Can you tell us what your influences are in the current musical landscape. And where you situate yourself in it.

For once this set is more oriented old school hip hop, a short range of my taste in old Boombap. There is a short scratch session in the middle, in fact it is rather a mix in the tradition of art. For those who do not know me I am a music lover first, and I am very open when it comes to musical genre, I listen to actual music, as of hits which have also rocked our parent’s adolescence. My only limit is the bad taste I speak of music that carries an expiry date, -the one I leave to those who appreciate MTV.

3 What do you think are the artists to follow now?

Right now I’m a big fan of all this future movement beats, so not to mention all I would talk about Deft, Wave Racer, 20syl, Geotheory, Gramatik, Pomo, Waldo, Alizzz, Pomrad, Maxx Baer, Starkey, Lindsay lowend, B Bravo, CYGN Tom Misch, Parrad, etc … After that it’s everyone’s tastes too.

4 What are your musical projects to come, as well as those of which you are most proud of?

Right now I’m working on many new diverse and varied projects … the first is call « FLUO KIDD » a live production oriented Project in the future beat, abstract hip hop genre, another House music aka « The Houstakerz » and I started working with an academic jazz singer « Jobee » there is a version in a group mode with musicians, that more recently was mounted around a set of turntables instead more focused electro pop … But since the beginning and forever I continue my personal project « Dj Odilon » more focused on turntablism / hip hop / bass music / Funky shit (cf. djodilon.com).

5 Do you come from the turntablist scene, from how long do you practice? How did you fell into it?

It all started with the mix in the 2000s, and by listening to hip hop and especially when I heard one of the famous deejay cut killer’s mixtape « Hip hop soul party III » I said to myself this is what I wanted to do, then followed hours of viewing VCR tapes of Academix training vol.1, 2 & 3. Then one day I bought my train ticket to go for a week of training in Paris within the Academix with mister sensei Dj Hitch.

6 Have you any tips for those who like you want to compete?

I would advise them to work to develop their style, get inspiration of the great names in order to find his own personal expression. Then better to start as soon as possible because there are also many things to learn in this, stress management, the concept of the show, creating an original set, technicality … And for the technicians know that If you calibrate your editing software to 133.33 bpm the grid will exactly match the circumference of the vinyl disc and so it will be easier to have your sound by quarter, half, etc …

7 What are for you the essential qualities of a good scratcher?

The first great qualities to have is patience and fierceness Otherwise listen and train throughout the tempos and genres, multiply meetings between scratcher, musicians etc … Opening up to others help sharing and the diversity in exchanges .. Well after with a good internet connection you have access to all tutorials of the world via platforms such as youtube.

8 What do you think of the scratch scene today?

I think that our turntablism scene is diverse and varied in style and origin. Now turntablism has become a global phenomenon and that ‘s pretty cool that the family’s growing. My only negatives would be the evolution of our art to quitting vinyl, I would not seem old fashioned but hey let them turntables live; the controlerism is another discipline to me. To each his own!

9 If you were a piece of music, which would you be?

Without hesitation Tom Misch « on my mind » I just need to hear it to get lost in my thoughts.

10 The next shows?

My next shows next to international artists is planned for Saturday, May 16 in Liege on the occasion of the anniversary of the Full Colorz. I would play alongside Suff Daddy including MNDSGN.

1 / Salut! Tout d’abord merci beaucoup d’être là pour Retrofuture! Peux tu te présenter?

Hey. On me connaît sous le nom Robot Orchestra et je suis un producteur / beatmaker de Cologne en Allemagne. Je suis également l’un des deux co-fondateurs de Hobo Truffes, un net-label et un collectif de producteur.

2 / Ce set est entièrement composée avec tes propres productions et remixes, peux tu nous en parler?

Eh bien, d’abord et avant tout, je suis un beat-maker, pas un DJ. C’est pourquoi j’ai décidé d’utiliser strictement ma propre musique pour ce mix. La plupart des tracks sont assez décontractée, ce qui est en quelque sorte de plus en plus mon truc dernièrement. Ce mix comprend quelques remixes que j’ai fait pour des artistes comme STWO et Weirdinside, et quelques tracks qui sont présent sur diverses compilations. Le set comprend également quelques tracks nouveaux et inédits.

3 / Qu’est ce qui t’inspires ? Qu’est ce qui t’aide dans ton processus de création musicale? Qui sont tes producteurs favoris?

La plupart de mon inspiration vient de la musique qui me parle à un certain niveau. J’ai tendance à écouter beaucoup de musique de la fin des années 60 et 70, plus précisément Soul, Jazz et Rock psychédélique. Et bien sûr, j’écoute aussi de la musique instrumentale contemporaine.

Les producteurs qui m’ont inspiré le plus récemment ont probablement été Flying Lotus, Chrome Sparks, Flume, Iamnobodi, et invention pour n’en nommer que quelques-uns.

Pour être honnête, je ne peux pas vraiment dire ce qui m’aide spécifiquement.

J’essaie juste de laisser la créativité s’écouler naturellement et ne pas forcer, si cela a du sens.

4 / J’ ai seulement entendu uniquement des tracks instrumentales venant de toi. Souhaites tu collaborer avec des mc’s? Lesquels?

En fait, je travaille avec des rappeurs occasionnellement. J’ai eu le plaisir de travailler avec certains mc’s underground très talentueux tel que Skyblew, Cor Stidak, suprême Sol, MARS et plus encore. Un souhait disons peu réaliste, je dirai que j’aimerai travailler avec Kendrick Lamar. C’est un incroyable lyriciste .

5 / Quand as tu démarré la production? Peux tu nous parler un peu de ton set up ?

J’ai commencé le beatmaking il y a environ 12 ans, mais j’ai pris ça plus au sérieux il y a 3 ou 4 ans. C’est quelque chose que j’aime faire et c’est resté avec moi au fil des ans. En ce moment, je travaille surtout avec deux Roland SP (555 et 404SX), un Microkorg, un clavier midi et un Akai MPD32. Et comme DAW j’utilise Ableton Live.

6 / Quel est ton logiciel ou matériel préféré?

C’est difficile à dire. En ce qui concerne le matériel, je dirais le Microkorg.

J’aime beaucoup le défi de créer / programmer des sons intéressants avec un synthétiseur petit et simple comme ça. En ce qui concerne le logiciel, je dirai Ableton Live en général.

J’aime le workflow flexible avec toutes les options que le midi-mapping possibles.

7 / Tu es d’Allemagne, je vois beaucoup de beatmakers talentueux là bas, je pense à Suff Daddy, Dexter, Fid Mella, IAMNOBODI et j’en passe , des labels comme Jakarta, MPM et Project Mooncircle …! Peux tu nous dire ce que tu pense de la scène dans ton pays? Dans le monde?

C’est vraiment une bénédiction d’être entouré par tant de beatmakers et labels talentueux qui soutiennent la scene beat. C’est très motivant pour moi sous de nombreux aspects. Je suis heureux que la musique instrumentale de nos jours soit reconnue, au lieu d’être simplement une «musique de fond» pour les chanteurs.

8 / As-tu des projets à venir?

Actuellement, je travaille sur un EP solo et un autre Ep en collaboration avec un ami producteur nommé Sterio. Il y’a aussi quelques remixes officiels en travaux qui seront publiées dans l’année.

9 / Des concerts?

Je vais jouer à Dortmund / Allemagne le 21 Février à Bring Your Owns Beats Cypher. Le 28 Mars, je serai à Prague / République tchèque. Et le 25 Avril, je vais jouer à Berlin / Allemagne au Hip Hop Convention.

10 / Un dernier mot?

Hey there. I go by the name of Robot Orchestra and I’m a producer/beat-maker from Cologne/Germany. I’m also one of the two co-founders of Hobo Truffles, a Net-label and producer collective.

2/This set is entirely composed with your own productions and remixes , can you talk about it?

Well, first and foremost I’m a beat-maker, not a DJ. That’s why I decided to use strictly my own music for this mix. Most of the tracks are pretty laid-back, which is kind of becoming my thing lately. The mix includes a few remixes I did of Artists like STWO and Weirdinside, and a bunch of tracks which were featured on various compilations. The Set also includes a few new and previously unreleased tracks.

3/What insipires you? What helps you in your musical creation process? Who are your favorites producers?

I draw most of my inspiration from music that speaks to me on some level. I tend to listen to a lot of music from the late 60s and 70s, mostly Soul, Jazz and Psychedelic Rock. And of course I also listen to contemporary instrumental music.

Producers who inspired my the most recently were probably Flying Lotus, Chrome Sparks, Flume, Iamnobodi, and Invention just to name a few.

To be honest, I can’t really tell what helps me with the musical process specifically.

I just try to let the creativity flow naturally and not to force it, if that makes any sense.

4/I only heard from you tracks such as instrumentals. Would you like to collaborate with mc’s? Which ones?

Actually I do work with Rappers occasionally. I had the pleasure of working with some very talented underground emcees like Skyblew, Cor Stidak, Supreme Sol, MARS and more. Throwing all realistic expectations out of the window, I would say I’d like to work with Kendrick Lamar. He’s just an amazing Lyricist.

5/How long it’s been since you start beatmaking? Can you talk a bit about your producing set-up?

I first started getting into making beats about 12 years ago, but only began taking it more serious about 3 or 4 years ago. It’s just something that I love doing and it stuck with me over the years. As of now, I mostly work with two Roland SP’s (555 and 404sx), a Microkorg, a midi-keyboard and an Akai mpd32. As for a DAW I use Ableton Live.

6/ What’s your favorite pieces of Software or hardware?

Phew, that’s hard to say. Hardware-wise, I’m gonna go with the Microkorg.

I very much enjoy the challenge of creating/programming interesting sounds with a small and simple synthesizer like this. As far as Software goes, I’d say Ableton Live in general.

I love the flexible workflow with all the options that midi-mapping provides.

7/You’re from Germany, i see a lot of talented beatmakers there , i think about Suff Daddy , Dexter , Fid mella , IAMNOBODI and more , labels like Jakarta , Mpm and Project Mooncircle … ! Can you tell us how you feel about this scene in your country? Worldwide?

It’s a blessing really to be surrounded by so many talented beat-makers and labels who support the beat-scene. It is very motivating to me in many aspects. I’m glad that nowadays instrumental music can stand for itself, instead of being just « background music » for vocalists.

8/Do you have forthcoming projects?

Currently, I’m working on a solo EP and another Ep in collaboration with a producer friend of mine named Sterio. There are also a few official remixes in the works which will be released sometime this year.

9/Any gigs?

I’ll be playing in Dortmund/Germany on February 21st at The Bring Your Owns Beats Cypher. On March 28th I’ll be in Prague/Czech Republic. And on April 25th I’ll be playing in Berlin/Germany at the Hip Hop Convention.

1/ Salut , merci pour ce set . Peux tu te présenter pour ceux qui ne te connaissent pas ?

Salut, je m’appelle Thibault, j’ai 17 ans et je viens d’Alsace. J’ai commencé la musique à l’âge de 4 ans avec le piano. Depuis 2 ans maintenant, je compose également sur ordinateur. Pour mes compositions on me surnomme « Aei« . Un nom d’origine grecque qui signifie « l’éternité », ce qui me correspond bien, car pour moi, la musique en général est éternelle et sans limite.

2/ On sent que tu es de la nouvelle génération de beatmaker qui ont bercé autant ds le hip-hop que l’electro, tu peux nous parler de ce qui t’inspire ?

En effet, je suis beaucoup inspiré par le hip-hop et l’électro, mais pas seulement. Je suis issu d’une famille de musiciens et, avec le piano, j’ai grandi dans un milieu musical classique. La musique classique qui est, j’en suis convaincu, l’essence même de toutes nos musiques actuelles, est pour moi une de mes principales inspirations. J’ai aussi un amour inconditionnel pour les musiques du monde, une grande source d’inspiration ! Les différents bruits, sons que vous pouvez entendre quotidiennement dans la rue ou dans votre cuisine sont aussi une source d’inspiration, j’adore sampler des sons originaux comme des ustensiles de cuisines à l’oeuvre haha.

Pour citer quelques artistes plutôt récents qui m’inspirent énormément, j’évoquerais Ta-ku pour ses créations folles, originales et émotionnelles ou encore Woodkid pour ses compositions puissantes et riches.

3/Tu peux nous parler des tracks qui composent le set que tu nous as préparé?

3. Avec ce mix, je voulais essayer de créer la meilleure playlist pour voyager. Vous y trouverez un grand nombre de mes artistes favoris, leurs morceaux me font souvent rêver et me motivent à apprécier chaque jour. Ainsi je voulais vraiment essayer de vous transmettre les différentes émotions de ces morceaux : avec un début du mix plutôt entraînant, une suite plus douce qui vous fait rêver et méditer pour finir votre voyage dans le temps en revenant doucement à la réalité.

4/ Tu as des projets musicaux en ce moment?

4. En ce moment moins parce que je dois préparer mon bac haha. Je viens cependant de sortir un EP ‘Anthology’ le mois dernier. Il contient des sons disponibles sur mon soundcloud et existe en version CD limitée.

5/ Des dates à venir?

5. J’aime beaucoup me produire en publique que ce soit au piano ou aux platines, mais je n’ai pas de dates pour le moment !

1/ Hi and thank you for this set ! Can you introduce yourself ?
Yo, I AM Thibault , 17years old beatmaker from Alsace in east France. I started music at 4 with keyboard. Since 2 y now i make music with computers. For that my nickname is AEI. It means eternity. It fine to me cuz for me the music is eternal and without limits.
2/ We find that you’re from the new generation of producers with no musical boundaries. Can you talk to us about your influences?
2 Yes that’s right. Hip-hop and electro both inspire me but not only. I’m from a musician family and with keyboard i start in the classical world. For me classical is the roots for lot of actual musics and a main inspiration to me. I’m in love with world music too , big inspiration too! I love the sounds of life too, sounds of the streets or sounds of your kitchen . I can sample some cooking tools ahah .
To name a few artists i can say Ta-ku for his crazy beats , emotional and so original and Wookid for his powerfull compositions.

3/Can you talk about your guest mix?

3. For this one, i wanted to create the best playlist to travel . You can find lot of my favorite artists. Their music make me dream and give me the power to love each day. So i wanted to give you the emotions i feel with these songs. A catchy beginning and after that some deep tracks to meditate and dream to come back to the reality.

4/ Any project ?

4 . Not now because i am a student:) and i have exams to pass. But my last EP was release last month. It contains tracks of my soundcloud and is out in limity CD edition.

5/ Any gigs?

5. I love to make live at keyboard or on the decks but not for the moment .

INTERVIEW :

1/ Salut chief. Merci de nous avoir régalée avec cette demi heure. Peux tu te présenter pour ceux qui ne te connaissent pas?

Je me surnomme ‘’Chief’’, 33 ans et je suis beatmaker, Dj, et patron du label Feelin’ Music que j’ai crée en 2006, je vis à Lausanne en Suisse.
J’ai longtemps produis pour des rappeurs US tel que Aloe Blacc, Blu, John Robinson, Abstract Rude, Moka Only, Soul of Mischief, El da sensei, etc..
maintenant depuis plusieurs années je me suis mis à faire quelques albums instrumentaux mais je continue à travailler encore avec quelques Mc’s, mais c’est vrai que je prends quand même beaucoup plus de plaisir à travailler sur des projets ‘’Abstract beats’’ que sur des projets avec des mc’s, mais parfois c’est vrai que j’ai envie de faire des beats pour des mc’s et parfois de partir sur des musiques plus complexes genre Beats, Deep House, … bref de pousser mon travail plus loin que des simples boucles de 4 mesures pour mc’s, dépend de mes envies du moment !
2/ Une fois encore l’invité a su montrer une palette d’influences bien large. Peux tu nous parler un peu de ce set. De tes influences.

C’est vrai que j’ai longtemps été un gros digger de vinyls et mes influences partent de la funk au jazz jusqu’à la musique du monde à la bossa nova, du rock psy au mouvement plus électronique.
Dans ce mixe je commence avec 3 versions de Fall in Love puis une série de mes beats puis je pars sur une reprise de ‘’A tribe Called Quest’’ par le trio de Vijay Iyer pianiste d’origine indienne d’où j’ai repris le sample pour en refaire une version, un petit Paul McCartney & Wings repris par Erykah Badu, de Ruck P à John Klemmer en passant par Stevie Wonder à MF Doom en finissant par une vibe de Mutiny.

3/ Tu as collaboré avec moka only sur cricket qui a bien tourné chez nous et il y a une suite en préparation. Tu peux nous parler un peu de cette collaboration ?

On a commencé à travailler avec Moka Only en 2008, il a sorti le 2ème opus d’un de ces albums les plus classic ‘’Lowdown Suite’’ sur mon label puis par la suite il m’a invité sur son album ‘’Carrots & Eggs’’ et c’est vrai que les morceaux qu’on faisait ensemble sur ces albums ou sur les miens sortaient toujours du lot et nous avons tout simplement décidé de faire un album complet qui a vraiment bien marché.
Nous avons également fait toute une tournée Européen pendant 2 semaines et maintenant on s’est remis au travail pour la 2ème partie de ‘’Crickets’’.
4./ D’ailleurs tu as pas mal de projets à venir. Trois si je ne me trompe pas. Une belle année se prépare du côté de feelin’ music.

L’année 2014 était déjà bien chargée du côté de Feelin’ Music et on ne lâche pas l’affaire et en 2015 il y a plusieurs albums terminés qui vont bientôt sortir comme :

Chief & Deheb – LEAF
John Robinson & Chief – We the prolific
RNGS – Pognon

Bien entendu le reste du roster travaillent sur leurs albums qui j’espère seront également disponibles dans la nouvelle année.

5/ En espérant te Booker un jour, T’as des dates de prévues ces temps ci ?

Le 17 Janvier à La Bellevilloise / Paris pour la THANK YOU JAYDEE sinon je pense avoir une série de dates en Europe et peut être à nouveau une série de dates au USA et Canada.

2 Once again our guest give us a set with an eclectic selection . Can you talk about your influences?
From jazz , funk to bossa , psych-rock and electro,i am a big vinyl collector.
In this set i begin with 3 version of Fall in love then i put a lil selection of my own beats . After that come an A tribe called quest remix by Vijay Iyer an indian keyboardist. I pick up a sample of that track to make my own version. There is a cover of Paul Mc Cartney by Erykah Badu. Also you can find some Doom , Ruck P , John Klemmer and Stevie Wonder . I close this set by a track by Mutiny.

3 You did an album with US mc Moka Only called Cricket. There is a forthcoming new album with him. Can you tell us more about this collab ?
We started to work in 2008. My label , Feelin’ music put out the 2nd opus of his classic « Lowdown Suite » then he invited me on his LP « Carrot & Eggs » and that’s true, the tracks we did together had something big so we decide to make a full album together. We did a 2weeks Euro tour and now we are working on the 2nd album.

4 A great year is coming for you and your label. I saw 3 projects for chief . One with John Robinson , one solo and the crickets 2 .
2014 was already big and we want to make it big in 2015 ! Here’s the future :

1 / Salut Netik , bienvenue et merci pour ce petit set pour notre émission ! Bon de notre coté on connaît ton palmarès mais peux tu te présenter pour ceux qui ne te connaissent pas ?

Netik:

Hello hello, alors de rien pour le set je l’ai fait avec plaisir et c’est moi qui vous remercie pour l’invit.

Pour la présentation, je suis DJ et surtout scratcheur depuis presque 20 ans. C’est vrai que j’ai fait pas mal de competitions, pour le palmarès j’ai remporté les DMC Battle for world supremacy en 2001 et 2002, le All Star beat down Europe ainsi que le I.T.F Europe catégorie scratch (I.D.A de l’ époque) en 2002 aussi. Puis j’ai remporté l’individuel en 2006 avec un show produit par le producteur Le Jad.

Sinon autrement je n’ai pas fait que des competitions, j’ai eu la chance de faire pas mal d’autres trucs intéressants dans ma carrière, j’ai travaillé avec des groupes de Jazz, beaucoup de groupe de rap, des compagnies de danse, j’ai eu un projet drum n bass/scratch avec un autre dj de 2003 a 2006… et je me suis aussi mis a la production au fur et a mesure.

2/ On a pu entendre pas mal d’influences dans ce set , veux tu nous en dire quelques mots, nous présenter tes influences?

Netik: Alors c’est vrai que pour le coup il y a pas mal de délires différents dans ce set.

C’est dailleurs toujours kiffant de faire des podcast radio ça donne une certaine liberté comparé aux set de soirées.En ce qui concerne mes influences sont très larges, j’ ai écouté beaucoup de Hip hop pendant assez longtemps puis j’ai découvert la drum n bass, de là ça m’a emmené a la bass music en general, le dubstep tout ça… j’ai vraiment biffé tout ça du coup j’ai développé un peu ce truc la pendant pas mal d’années,le fait de Spliter tous ces genres dans mes sets avec de la technique.

D’ailleurs dans ce set je pense qu’il doit y avoir 80 % des morceaux qui viennent t de free d.L de soundcloud. Du coup maintenant avec internet et ces milliers de morceaux qui sortent tous les jours, comme beaucoup de monde je pense, j’écoute un paquet de trucs différents.

Ca devient plus compliqué maintenant de répondre a la question« tu écoutes quoi ?

C’est une période quand meme hyper intéressante car tout a fusionné, tout se mélange, on ramènne le vieux on lui remet un coup de frais avec les sonorités de maintenant et tout, et je trouve ça pas mal.. D’ailleurs le nom de votre radio show évoque bien cette mouvance.

Dans ce délire de vieux qui revient j’aime bien ces beats sans mc avec des grosses basses, mais aux vibes bien chill..

Dans un autre registre je sui aussi de plus en plus fan de ce style que ramène koan sound depuis un moment, un espèce de Glitch I.D.M,je ne sais pas comment on peut appeler ça mais c’est pareil ça ramené plein d’influences différentes je trouve ça hyper intéressant!

En plus ils ont une démarche qui me plait, le fait de sortir ces tracks sous le meme nom que leur track plus Bass music. Presque tout le monde aurait pris un autre nom et fait un « Side project » comme on dit… moi je trouve ça cool qu’ils sortent ces trucs si différents sous le meme nom.

3/ Sauf si on en parle pas pour le moment, tu m’as laissé comprendre que tu étais sur un projet tout frais , tu nous en dis plus?

Netik : Yes je peux en parler sans vraiment en parler en fait…Je préfère attendre que ce soit vraiment concret, que les tracks soient bouclés et tout. Mais ce que je peux dire c’est que ça se précise, ça fait pas mal d’années que je souhaite monter quelquechose avec mes prod, les platines et des musiciens…Je commence enfin a voir le truc se dessiner!

4/ L’envie de reprendre un jour le chemin des battles te tente encore?

Netik : Il y a des fois ou j’y ai repensé mais la vraiment je crois que non..C’est fini

5/ Que se pass t’il pour toi en ce moment?

Netik : Je suis installé a Bruxelles depuis maintenant un an et je travaille a fond sur mon nouveau projet..

1/ Hi and thank you for this special set for the radio! On our side we know your ranking but can you introduce yourself for those who do not know you?

Netik : Hello hello, then no problem for the set I’m pleased and thank you for the invitation.

For the presentation, I am scratcher DJ for almost 20 years. It’s true that I do a lot of competitions for palmares I won the Dmc Battle for world supremacy in 2001 and 2002, the All Star beat down Europe and the ITF Europe scratch category (iDA of the time) in 2002 as well.
Then I won the individual in 2006 with a show produced by the producer Le Jad.

I had the chance to do a lot of other interesting stuff in my career I worked with jazz groups, many rap group, dance companies, I had a drum n bass project / scratch with another dj from 2003 to 2006 … and I do some productions.

2 / We could hear a lot of things in this set! Can you introduce your influences?

Netik : It’s true that for once there is a lot of different stuffs in this set.

It’s always cool to do radio podcast that gives some freedom compared to live sets.
Concerning my influences are very broad, I have listened to a lot of hip hop for a long time and then I discovered the drum n bass, and bass music in general, dubstep all that …

Besides in this set I think there must be 80% of the pieces that come from soundcloud.

So now with the internet and the thousands of pieces that come out every day, like many people I think, I plays a bunch of different stuff.
It now becomes more difficult to answer the question « what are you listening?
It is a really intersting time because everything is fusion now. The name of your radio show evokes this movement.

I like these beats without mc with big bass, but with well-chill vibes ..
On another note I am growing fan of this style like koan sound a kind of Glitch IDM
I do not know how you can call it like that but it’s brought a lot of different influences I find it super fresh!
Plus they have an approach that I like, getting out these tracks under the same name as their Bass music stuffs.

3/ You told me about a new project to come, can you tell us a few words?

Netik : Yes I can talk without really talking about actually …
I prefer to wait until it is really concrete, the tracks are curly and everything.
But what I can say is that it is accurate, it’s quite a few years that I want to do something with my prod, turntables and musicians …
I’m finally starting to see the starting point of this thing.

4/ You come from scratch battles scene, the desire to retry a try to win a competition tempts you?

Netik : There are times when I thought about it but I really think not…

5/ What’s going on for you right now?

Netik : I moved to Brussels for a year now and I workon my new project .
