Digging visuals.

Lately, we’ve introduced to you some of SSWlll’s artworks and visual experiments. SSWlll is the artist behind our last compilation’s solid artwork and if you haven’t already, we still strongly suggest that you check it out on our Bandcamp page.

Since this article, it turns out that he produced a pretty efficient video trailer, introducing some of his VJ loops.  We wanted to share it with you, but we’re taking this article as a good opportunity to explore the visual works of some other artists who are also part of the Unlog family.

Push 1 stop : Unlog Complex 03 teaser

Audio : Tayreeb – Langskip Trip

Back in mid 2014, as we were about to release our 3rd Unlog Complex we had the opportunity to have its mood condensed into this short visual object produced by the talented VJ artist that is Push 1 stop. Based in Montreal, she masters the whole chain between the creation of her very own visual content and the live performances she gives through immersive VJ sets, such for the world famous Igloofest winter festival or under the immersive dome built at the SAT (Montreal).

Find some of her works on her Vimeo page, and make sure to click HD. Here’s one we really love, inspired by a track from Ben Frost’s latest album Etheral Machines. « A Single Point of Blinding Light ». Precisely, you’re watching art generated with GLSL coding. A fractal that reacts to the music and some compositing in Smoke 2015.

Bruno Destombes – Unlog Complex 02 Teaser

Audio : Himuro Yoshiteru – Almost robot

If we go a bit further, we’ll reach mid 2013, when we released our second Unlog Complex compilation, starting with the granular heavy hitter that is the track Almost Robot from Himuro Yoshiteru.  At that time, we were just starting making compilations (an unexpected project at first) in a world already saturated with free beat tapes. We did not beg to differ, nor really bother actually : we were truly confident about the quality of the music we were about to release, but something seemed missing. This music was mostly synth based, had no lyrics, and worked really well with visuals when played live (and even better with Push 1 stop’s visuals, scroll up to see why)… the brainstorming led to something quite obvious : any kind of moving images would be an excellent way to express the very own identity of the music we love. It had to start with something, and it started with this experimental glitch trailer made by our friend Bruno Destombes. Professional event photographer and multi-talented visual artist, Bruno covers pretty much everything we love about this town’s cultural life. Later after he produced this video for us, a new adventure started for him with This is HERD, a project that aims at creating original and creative multimedia content related to Canadian arts.

His latest creation is a documentary that covers the last edition of 24 Hours of Vinyl in San Fransisco. Again, here’s another inspiring document to share to all the diggers around you.

BLACKELK RECORDINGS – LEVITATE COLLAPSE

NOZA : « Naghtva Ugel » / UNLOG x BLKE – VA – Complex EP#1

Back in time again, to our very first compilation, Unlog Complex 01 in mid 2012. This release was a collaboration with the label Blackelk Recordings, and the next releases were meant to feature some from some of their artists, such as UM, Duff Ill, MLP, Everydayz, Famelik, Killacam or Jean du Voyage.

The project evolved : UM and Duff Ill teamed up to create Levitate Collapse, a 30 minutes combo between audio / video projection, based on some tracks released on their catalog (available for free download on blackelkrecordings.com). The video has been tailored for Noza’s track Naghtva Ugel, in our very first compilation.

Note that Duff Ill’s musical universe has also been transposed into images in the video below, video clip for the track Darkness Dayz (released last december on his EP Splash).

What about Kalbut DSGN?

Many of you remember our friend from Belgium, Mr Freezy. One of the founders of this website, who created most of our podcasts’ visuals (plus some flyers and wallpapers too), also recorded 2 of our early podcasts (and a track on our next compilation maybe?)… He never really left actually, and is kept really busy countless projects with Kalbut DSGN, that include events, art creations, and lots of video.

Here’s one they made recently, introducing Dominique B.’s work on a track by Loowood.

Engone Endong – Indigo Seed

Last but not least, but we did not want you to miss this one. Engone’s indigo seed music video, made in February 2013 as we released Engone Endong’s podcast mix Dimensions.
